FAQ: Reader Erin asks: “Since I have very limited travel experience (family vacations in the US and one cruise to the Caribbean) I was wondering how hard it would be for me to become apart of the Workaway community. I know that I can sign up, but with no reviews yet, how hard will it be to find somewhere that will take me with only my experience as a waitress and nanny as references to my abilities to work?”
Answer: In my personal experience, it was not hard at all when I first started. We found a job within a couple of months of signing up, right when we wanted to.
It’s more about personality than work experience since the “jobs” vary so much. What’s important is that you and your host are a good match for each other.
You don’t have to be a painter to learn how to paint a room in someone’s house, or a gardener to learn how to take care of plants. With Workaway, you will learn new skills according to which opportunity you take.
Remember, you have the ability to read reviews about your host (see FAQ: Is Workaway Safe?), so they are the ones having to trust that you are a decent person. I suggest putting as much information into your profile as you can and be honest so you can find a good match. It will work. You have nothing to lose, so just give it a try.
