Hotel: Hotel Kinbe
Location
Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. Close to the bus station and the ferry to Cozumel, and sandwiched right between the beach and busy La Quinta Avenida.
First Impressions
It’s in a prime location for lounging, site seeing, and nightlife. Plus, public transportation hubs are within walking distance. The staff I interacted with were welcoming and helpful.

The Property
Hotel Kinbe is located on a quiet side street in downtown Playa Del Carmen. So, it is just steps from the beach and surrounded by shops and restaurants. After peeling myself out of bed following six solid hours of restful sleep, I finally took a good look around the room. The standard double room, or The Pretty Room, that I booked was a good size and had everything I needed, which at this point was hot water, air conditioning, and a comfortable bed. The room was very modern and minimalistic with glass-top tables with a silver and deep purple color scheme.
What I Loved
The rain shower head in the river rock decorated bathroom was my favorite thing about staying at Hotel Kinbe. I also loved the breezy open-air lobby overflowing with lush green plants trailing up the banisters and across the balconies. The stairs and rails were made of thick, rough branches and planks. It made me feel like I was in a jungle instead of a bustling tourist center. Near the beautiful indoor/outdoor pool is a library full of books written in both English and Spanish from which guests can borrow.

What I Didn’t Love
There was construction going on at a nearby hotel, not Hotel Kinbe’s fault at all, but still not enjoyable. Luckily the sounds weren’t as loud inside the hotel room as they were outside. Also, guests were provided umbrellas since it was a little rainy during my stay. I appreciated the gesture despite the umbrellas being flimsy and breaking during my first stride out the door.
What’s Not to Miss
Hotel Kinbe is a block from the ocean and white sand beaches! It’s also around the corner from the famous and lively La Quinta Avenida with all the shops, restaurants, and nightclubs. Whether you swim or not, sit by the pool during your stay – it’s beautiful.
